Overlooking the Cheshire Plains on the fringe of Staffordshire, The Roaches boasts one of the prettiest views in the area. As a medium-hard difficulty level walk, it’s up to you how much of an adventure you want to make it. The further you go, the harder it gets; offering opportunities for climbing rock structures, but the reward being only more breathtaking scenery. With the difficulty level being slightly more so than other walks in the area, it’s recommended that you go prepared for a challenge, with fitness playing a more important role in its completion. While not necessarily a typical ‘family walk’, it could absolutely be done with younger children, or as a dog walk - but just make sure they’re close to your side for the duration! Remember water, remember snacks, and definitely remember your camera! As arguably one of the page’s favourite places to escape locally, you’ll definitely return from it knowing why, and will be looking forward to the next chance you get to go on the adventure. But rest assured, you can make it your own! Having the freedom to go off-track or stay on the man-made path, The Roaches never has to be the same should you want a different experience. A highly recommended day out (weather permitting), but be aware that it’s not the relaxing countryside stroll, as the Wheelock Rail Trail is.
